Information architecture.
For the AI age.

01
The phrase

Remember information architecture? Of course you don’t. Nobody has said it out loud since about 2012, and the last person who did was probably apologizing for a slide.

The small room

It had a run. Two library scientists named it in 1998, put a polar bear on the cover, and for a few years it was the most serious thing you could say in a room full of people arguing about drop-downs.

Then the web got faster and the phrase got smaller. Information architecture became the wireframe guy. It became the hamburger menu. It became the part of the project that happened before the real work.

The idea was not wrong. It was early.

The pile

Information about your company is everywhere now, and almost none of it is yours. Your careful homepage sits in a pile with a review from a guy in Tulsa, a forum thread nobody moderated, a marketplace listing carrying better product facts than your own product page, and a directory that still has the address you left in 2019.

A machine reads the whole pile and writes one paragraph.

The underdog

So for once, the brand is the underdog.

What you say about yourself, in your voice, on your property, is a minority opinion in the room where the answer gets made. Third person won. It was always going to.

That is a strange sentence to write about a company with a media budget. The megaphone, the buy, the control of the room, all of it is one voice in a pile of a thousand. What is left is the foundation.

Information architecture is the whole game now.

Stage30™ is how Cast Iron LA practices it. Rules written down, wired to code that fails our own build the day the engine stops obeying them, and a free report that puts your customer’s question to three live engines and prints what came back.

We are taking the phrase back. Use it. The trademark is Stage30. Information architecture is everybody’s.

The wireframe guy was right. He was twenty eight years early.
